The Stewart–Colbert rallies are two competing events planned to occur on October 30, 2010 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.: the "March to Keep Fear Alive", led by Stephen Colbert, and the "Rally to Restore Sanity", hosted by Jon Stewart. The rallies are planned specifically as a satirical response to the Restoring Honour rally and its counter march "Reclaim the Dream but also to the radical political movements like the Tea Party in the run-up to the 2010 midterm elections and Anti-war movement that opposed presidential administration of George W. Bush. The Rally to Restore Sanity website says that it is "a rally for the people who've been too busy to go to rallies", a chance to be heard above what Stewart describes as the more vocal 15 to 20 percent of Americans who "control the conversation" of United States politics.
