F-86 Sabre Greeting Card by cunningba
The North American F-86 Sabre was the primary air-to-air jet fighter used by the USAF in the Korean War. Though not officially documented, several people involved in the development of the F-86 claimed that the North American test pilot George Welch was actually the first to break the sound barrier while executing a dive during its first test flight on October 1, 1947, 14 days before Chuck Yeager's well document supersonic flight in the Bell X-1.
