Photographic evidence of what happens to equatorial rainforest once the natural vegetation is removed and rains wash away the thin top soil - to leave mucky sand pits where virgin rainforest used to be. This shows how thin the actual topsoil is.

Rain forest destruction accounts for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. There's also the issue of endangered wildlife whose habitat is irrevocably destroyed.
