When a new member joins the Johnson family--in the form of a baby mule named Balthazar--life on the farm is a happy idyll. Alexis, the family’s daughter, is particularly taken with the foal and Balthazar enjoys being doted upon like a playful puppy . . . for a while, at least. But childhood ends quickly and the reality of life on the farm swoops down like a raptor. The days of birthday parties and fetch in the yard behind him, Balthazar must become acquainted with a new set of friends--the yoke and the whip. Driven past the point of exhaustion by the industrious Farmer Johnson, Balthazar turns from a beast of burden into a beast a-murderin’ in the blink of an eye. Lashing out in a blind rage, he puts the business end of his powerful hooves to anyone foolish enough to try and stop him.
