Dayak Elephant Native Tribal Art Magnets by Rebecca_Reeder
Handcrafted beaded art by ancestors of the Dayak people from the island of Borneo where the gentle-natured pygmy elephant once thrived. Today, the World Wildlife Fund estimates that there are probably fewer than 1,000 of these Borneo elephants remaining. The terrain on which these pygmy elephants thrive is the same land preferred by loggers and palm oil plantations. According to WWF, "About 40 percent of forest cover in the Malaysian state of Sabah, where most pygmy elephants [remain], has been lost to logging, [palm oil] plantations ... over the last four decades..."

Many belated thanks, Kip, Diana, Ellen, Lila, Susan, Skye...
everyone!! I had missed seeing the feedback under this item completely until now. I am really pleased that so many people have enjoyed this. It was given to me by a local resident in the area where I work with the orangutans. I was impressed by the detail -- all of the intricate beading as well as the rows of tiny shells.
