Card/Invitation: Buddha and the Flower by Aquavel
This image is from the artwork "Buddha and the Flower" by Odilon Redon, circa 1906. Redon made five artworks of the Buddha between 1904 and 1908. In this artwork, the Lord Buddha is holding up a rather large flower. (Note: "The Teaching of the Flower" is one of the important lessons in Buddhism.)

Odilon Redon was a French Symbolist artist known for his paintings and drawings of flowers, mythology, and spirituality. Although he was a contemporary of Monet and Renoir, Impressionism was not for him. Redon preferred an art of subjectivity and imagination. He was regarded by many of the Surrealists as their precursor.
