Buffalo Nation Greeting Cards by ZiaSun
Return of the Buffalo Nation "Miracle," the White Buffalo calf, was born on a farm in Wisconsin in 1994. Another, "Medicine Wheel," was born in May 1996. Some saw this as an omen that the prayer of the Lakota Ghost Dance of the late 1880's would be answered - that the Buffalo would return to the Great Plains. Almost extinct nearly a century ago, Buffalo have made a remarkable comeback. Nearly 250,000 graze today on private ranches, most on the Great Plains, and another 200,000 in Canada. Since the birth of "Miracle," American Indian tribes have been exerting their own muscle to bring the Buffalo back. It would seem that the Ghost Dance prayer has been answered.... ________________ In memory of Floyd 'Red Crow' Westerman, Dakota (Sioux); American Indian Activist, Singer, Song-Writer, Actor (you may remember his role as "Ten Bears," elder/leader in the movie "Dances With Wolves.")
