Blue Jays are large, rambunctious, noisy songbirds that travel in family groups. Their bright colours and crested heads make them an easily recognizable visitor to feeders. They LOVE unshelled peanuts. Blue Jays are sometimes credited with the spreading of oak trees after the last ice age because of their habit of carrying food in throat pouches to caching locations. They have a reputation for belligerence, but I've seem them back down to our resident chipmunk and the tiny Downy woodpeckers. Blue Jays are smart and fun to watch.
