Blind Baby Orangutan Overcoming Disabilities Card by Rebecca_Reeder
A wildlife notecard about overcoming disabilities and handicaps for a heartwarming success story: This young male orangutan is still alive and doing well on the island of Borneo, and he has a starring role in the IMAX film "Born to Be Wild"

When he was an infant, his mother was killed, and he was blinded in one eye as a result of injuries sustained at the same time. Here he sits in the lap of a care taker at Orangutan Foundation International's Care Centre on the island of Borneo. Sometimes this little guy is a bit more naughty than others, as if to prove that he is just as good as everybody else and that he won't put up with being picked on just because he is disabled.

You can help him or the hundreds of other orphans in the care of OFI by making a secure online donation at their website: www.orangutan.org * * * * * * * *
In addition, I use any and all profits fom the sale of this card to support the Care Centre. Thanks for your concern about wildlife and endangered species.

Thank you so much, wildside
Here's a link to a movie preview and at the 1:34 point where 3 young orangutans are playing with soap suds, this little guy is the one on the far left. Not the one soaping his arms (that's another one I have lots of photos of). Here's a link to copy and paste:
http://www.imax.com/movies/m/born-to-be-wild-3d/

Skye summed up our feelings perfectly, many votes little fella!

The orangutans get along just fine with cats.
There are lots of cats at the Care Center. They are more like rat and mouse catching outdoor cats, but they are all very gentle. This boy has partial sight in one eye, and he is doing amazingly well with that one eye. IN FACT - - he is supposed to have a starring role in the IMAX movie slated for release this spring 2011.
There is no way he could live in a house. This guy climbs to the top of 30 foot trees and swings on them. He wouldn't be happy inside, and your house and yard would be totally trashed with a capital T in about one hour.

Only one thing my mom asked
will he be OK with some cats around ? and how much about dose it cost to take care of him ? and how many nannas and other things dose he need ?
MyOtherPlanet
I have alot of room to make a place
MyOtherPlanet
would there be a way to adopt him ??

I had to come back and vote for this beautiful boy once again.
The cruelty of humans never ceases to make me feel ashamed and yet the greater capacity for Compassion is cause for pride in the human species. I am grateful for those who choose to care and to help.

I love the stories you share with us. They make the Orangutan's circumstances more real to those of us who haven't seen them firsthand. ~ Skye

There are a couple more pictures of this little guy...
If you go to this short photo album presentation, (link at the bottom) when it changes to the second screen, the little orphan that is climbing on my husband's back and then giving him a big hug and kiss is the same little "boy." He absolutely connected with my husband and remembers him and runs to him on subsequent visits (up to a year later!) handicapped orphan in jungle school

Thanks, Moonman! I'm glad you like him
He is one of our favorites. Not always the best behaved, but I think he will need that extra spunky spirit in the rain forest someday to make up for his handicap.

I agree with Pam and dreamingagain. You are such a great friend to the Orangutans, Rebecca. Proud to know you, Kiddo! :o-)

Wow, good thing he was found and is now well taken care of. Thank God for the devoted people who care for him and his fellow Orangutans.
