update info.
on Jan 14th Sonny sent communication to Professor Dr. Thomas David Hoisch inquiring feedback on this page of photos & information and he stated to him that he had some diabase basalt rock that showed some anomalies that Sonny hoped to find an explanation on the rocks. Dr. Hoisch replied I'd be happy to offer my opinion of a photo and his reply was prompt...the photos do not do it justice in my opinon (Joy's)...so Dr. Hoisch said..."Sonny...the black coating is a common product of weathering in desert enviroments and is called "desert varnish" ...The surface scrape marks on the rock 3 are just likely that...rocks can develop scrape marks from movement against other rocks and such movement can be caused by rock falls, transport by water, human interaction (bulldozing, off-road vehicles, etc), and many other things. I don't follow your question on your heart impression rock but it does not appear to be anything out of the ordinary. The whitish coating looks like quartz, probably a vein filling, and features such a tiny black specks on a surface are common and due to weathering or interaction with ground water. Good luck to you and enjoy your rock collection.
I reckon what Sonny needs to do is a deeper assay on the rocks...

Hi Joy That quartz silicate photo needs deleting after i looked at it. It might be the spark that sets off the meteorite scientist when done right. However, it will take a microscope and camera on that one i think since i can see the striations in the microscope but this photo of a close up did not show anything . on the shield rock== That iddingsite is hard to see but is said to be always found in meteorites--- you have to look carefully for a hair like orange seam that actually goes all the way across the top of the shield and part of it can be seen in the chipped off section. That broken area is part of what was broken off and flew out as chips some 48 ft. I even found another chip the other day. This stone was a good distance from the other smaller one i assayed-- Those assays cost me $40 apiece but they were proof of the pudding and show that those black areas are concentrations of the surface being melted down. We know that they are not seams since they are blended not linearly seperated like the quartz seam-- in other words these look just like cross sections of fusion crusts shown in the meteorite books. What they say is that the minerals found in there will have little change in structure and composition. It is the very surface of the fusion crust that the altered minerals would be found. I think those would be found in the troughs we see where residue was left behind.

highly peppered on one side this rock...I would hate to be holding that rock when the "event" happened...its obvious Firestone NEEDS to meet Sonny-
Sonny never looked for that book...he was at a thrift store and bought the book because it seem to be of interest since he has found unusual rocks in the past few years...actually its seven years I think-
good night.logging out...
