Eighth Air Force is a Numbered Air Force (NAF) of the United States Air Force Air Combat Command (ACC). It is headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and is one of three active-duty numbered air forces in Air Combat Command. The Eighth Air Force's now commonly-accepted nickname, "The Mighty Eighth", derives from the title of British farmer and life-long Eighth Air Force historian Roger A. Freeman's seminal History of the U.S. 8th Army Air Force (Doubleday and Company, 1970). The Roger A. Freeman Eighth Air Force Research Centre - Library and Archive was dedicated at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, Georgia in 2007. (The military maintains its own museum, the Eighth Air Force Museum at Barksdale.)
