1-2-3: Be Smart and Safe! by abbyk9
Most children love dogs - but not all of them know how to correctly approach a dog they don't know. These three simple steps help children learn how to meet a dog they have never met before:

1) Always ask the owner for permission to pet the dog. If there's no owner owner to ask - don't pet!

(2) Always ask the dog whether it wants to be petted. This is done by extending a closed fist for the dog to sniff. If the dog approaches and sniffs, it's okay to pet.

(3) Always pet gently on the neck and chest. Most dogs don't like being petted on top of the head, petted roughly, or getting hugged.

These fliers are designed to be used in a teaching setting to instruct children on how to meet a dog the right way. The black line-art encourages children to colour or trace the images.
